Class Overview
Reading/Spelling
We will be reading a variety of novels and using the text "Everyday Spelling" to learn spelling and vocabulary. We will also be reading stories from our Scholastic Reading Book.
We will also be participating in Accelerated Reader and the Braums Reading program.
Math
Twice a week we will be working with school wide problem solving strategies. We will also be using the Saxon Math text book. Also Step Up to the TAKS , Math Blast Off and Measuring Up! will be used for supplements.
Language Arts
The students will learn to write narrative, how-to, compare and contrast and persuasive compositions. Throughout the year we will also be working on capitalization, punctuation, usage content and revising and editing compositions.
Social Studies
During Social Studies the students will learn about:
The Land and Early People of Texas. Newcomers to early Texas. The Republic of Texas. The new state of Texas. Texas growth and changes. Texas today.
Science
During the year the students will learn:
The differences among living things which scientists classify them. Adaptation structures and behaviors that help living things meet their basic needs. Human body systems. Show the scale and structure of cells, tissues, organs, and systems. We will also learn about the Scientific Method and perform biweekly experiments.
